Attractive and descriptive audio can make or break any type of digital media production. It is used in a large variety of real-world environments, from creating radio voice-over advertisements to producing original music tracks. In any situation, audio helps establish moods, attract listeners, and please the ear. In order to create effective audio productions, it is important to learn proper creating and editing techniques, as well as establish technical information like equipment recognition and common file type characteristics. This unit should be very useful and applicable, and also fun and motivating.
The audio editor we will be using to create our audio productions is GarageBand. It is a free Apple® product that comes pre-loaded on newly purchased Macs. It uses a timeline-based layout that offers an extensive built-in music library, waveform view editing, and a large variety of pre-determined audio filters. The interface and tool terminology of GarageBand closely resembles the type of controls and editing techniques that professionals would use when mixing and recording industry-standard audio productions.
